Botulinum Toxin

What is Botulinum Toxin?

Botulinum toxin is an injectable, specifically OnabotulinumtoxinA which temporarily paralyzes your muscles to reduce the appearance of facial wrinkles. Three main types of botulinum toxin available in the market are DYSPORT, BOTOX and XEOMIN.

How does Botulinum Toxin work?

This minimally invasive treatment works well for fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and on the forehead between the eyes.

When injected, botox blocks nerve signals and muscle contractions around the injection site, improving the appearance of wrinkles and later on, slowing the formation of new lines by preventing contraction of facial muscles.

Frequently Asked Question

There is little to no downtime for botulinum, which is outlined in the section below.

You may have some minor bruising or discomfort about the injection site, but these symptoms should resolve themselves over a few days.

However, care should be taken not to rub, massage or apply pressure to the treated areas as this could cause the botox to spread to other areas of your body, affecting the results.

The entire procedure takes about 10 minutes. You’ll usually need about 3 injections on the side of each eye to smooth out crow’s feet, for example. You can repeat sessions once every three months, and the treatment is repeated as long as it’s needed by the client.
